How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Empowered Guidance offers a variety of weekly group counseling sessions. Individuals seeking to join will need to submit an inquiry either online or by calling the number listed to schedule the initial 45 minute consultation prior to attending the first group.

This will be the only individual session with the therapist. All sessions after the initial consult will be in group counseling sessions.

Maximum number of individuals allowed in one group is 10.

What’s the difference between individual counseling and group counseling?

The difference is individual counseling occurs when a client and a mental health therapist engage in confidential discussion and exploration to reach mutually set goals. In group counseling, goals are set by the client and mental health therapists during the initial face to face assessment. The therapist will then help clients reach their goals by engaging in group discussions and exploration through activities and feedback from group members.

Should my group therapist be informed about any psychotropic medications that I take?

Simply put- yes. Medication that is prescribed to help stabilize individual’s mood and thinking processes can be effective, but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling and the therapist should be made aware of any difficulties you may have resulting in the need for medications. Counseling is designed to help individuals explore problems, and expand individual strengths that in turn can help you accomplish personal goals.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
